Workshop participants played with imagery inspired by live flute and recorded music during our Music into Art session in store yesterday. The combination of music, colour and calm concentration made for a wonderful morning.

A workshop with Ted Blackall - 2nd November 10.30am
Come along to The Art Shop Mona Vale, 20 Bungan Street next Saturday to see Ted Blackall demonstrate and talk about 3rdi 'Side by Side' Master Class' his new, unique yet classical way of teaching and learning painting.
For a beginner or accomplished artist even one class session in this Master Class mode can dramatically improve one's technique, palette operation and art appreciation.

Northside Aboriginal Art & Craft Exhibition
The exhibition will be opened by Jacqueline Townsend, Mayor of Pittwater, on Fri 28th June, 6 - 8.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The exhibition at Mona Vale Memorial Hall is open on Friday 28, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June from 9am to 7pm This exhibition aims to show a cross section of painters and photographers, jewellery makers, a fabric designer, a quilt maker and a potter, along with books by two notable Aboriginal writers of our area.
So come along to see and buy the work of Northern Sydney Aboriginal artists. Shell Jewellery Making Workshops conducted by Kerrie Kenton, artist and jewellery maker, on Saturday 29th June at 10.30am & 2pm for adults and children. Cost $15 – Please book on 9913 9922

Local artist Jan Christaudo gave another fabulous free demonstration in The Art Shop on Friday 3rd April.

How to respond directly when drawing from life using pen, brush and ink. This demonstration is being given by Liz Macdonald. It is one of several approaches being taught, contour drawing and drawing using light will also feature.
These fun lessons will be offered at Avalon Recreation Centre on Tuesday mornings & at the Northern Beaches Community College on Monday evenings. Special Life Drawing evening classes working exclusively from a life model are also being taught by Liz, at the Paintersʼ Gallery.

Derwent Drawing Materials - Come & Play!
You are invited to call in and try before you buy a range of Derwent drawing materials on Thurs 13th December any time between 12 noon and 2pm when Toni from S&S, importers of Derwent drawing materials, will be in The Art Shop with an array of Derwent drawing materials for you to try out.
Call in and feel free to play with coloured pencils, graphite and waterclolour pencils, Coloursoft, tinted charcoal, the gorgeous Inktense pencils and blocks and Art Bars.

Del Kathryn Barton has illustrated "The Nightingale and the Rose"
The combination of Oscar Wilde's classic story and lusciously detailed contemporary imagery makes a stunning book. Archibald Prize winner Del Kathryn Barton has said that to her the nightingale is "the true artist, she gives of her deepest essence."
Copies have arrived at The Art Shop along with boxed sets of cards featuring illustrations from the book. Either would make a beautiful Christmas gift.
